2 out of 5 stars I really wanted to like this book.....   July 28, 2010

I wanted to like this book but there wasn't much to like. I am a big fan of paranormal romance and the ideas were good, but they weren't developed. The characters weren't very likeable and the dialog was very repetetive. I won't be continuing this series.

1 out of 5 stars I wanted to like this book, however....   June 27, 2010

The one and two star reviews about sum up my opinion of this book so I won't belabor the point.

This is my first review and only my opinion, but I believe the author obviously is a skilled writer but this book fell flat.

DEMONFIRE - KATE DOUGLAS
First I will start by saying that I have not read any of Kate Dougals' previous works so I cant say anything about her Erotica.

I will say that for the most part I was annoyed and didn't really care for this book. The characters were likable and interesting enough - however - in the realms of paranormal, I have read stories with enigmatic and wonderful characters that are wrapped around a story that are so much better than this one.

I couldn't wrap my head around the concept. Three worlds, that have now converged on Earth. The Abyss (Hell) were demons inhabit, Eden (where the Edennites live) and Lemuria (where the Lemurians inhabit inside Mount Shasta).

Basic premise: Dax is a former demon from the Abyss that has been chosen by the Edennites to take corporeal form and arrive on Earth with a mission. To stop a demon infestation that is leaking into Earth through a portal in Mount Shasta. He has 7 days to try and prevent this invasion of Evil. He meets Eddy Marks, a newspaper reporter in a small town by Mount Shasta. She finds him in her shed after he has arrived but is about to be killed by an Evil Gargoyle, who puts a curse on him in the form of a snake tattoo on his body.

Immediately Eddy is drawn to this man - though his story is hard to believe - but believe it she does when that same evening her living room is invaded and they are attacked by evil avatars - the demons have created an army and now inhabit any ceramic or metal figurine in the town. Dax immediately uses his demon powers, with the help of a will o' wisp faerie called Willow, who injects the energy around her into Dax to fight the demon hordes.

The story was somewhat silly really and was at times ludicrous and very repetitive. Eddy takes Dax to see her father who for years has believed that there is an ancient race of beings residing inside Mount Shasta. The Lemurians. Eddy and Dax, with her dog and willow go to Mount Shasta to find the opening that will take them into their world to seek their help. However, the Lemurians don't believe their story and they are incarcerated. Alton, the heir apparent to the throne, believes them and helps them escape so that he can do something other than listen to the boring lectures from his council.

What didn't grab me was the constant battle Dax has with the snake tattoo that keeps on coming to life and sucking off his powers and that Eddy has to use her hands in the form of magic to make the snake retreat before it kills Dax. Another thing that was pretty ludicrous was armies of clay and marble statues infested with Demon spirits parading around the small, urban town and the group of people that are what you can call a vigilante "army": Ed, Eddy's father, Dax, Eddy, Alton, the dog and the faerie Willow who are supposed to fight this invasion. Every chapter sounded like a repetition of the last - because Dax only has 7 days in the body of a human to rid the world of this threat, so every evening all they do is go off to fight these stone evil statues.

I was disappointed with this Paranormal romance - that bordered more on Urban Fantasy than Romance/Paranormal. I don't know if I am going to read Alton's story - I was barely hanging on to Demonfire by a thread. Sorry, I just didn't care for this book - although I plugged along wanting to see if it got any better. It just didn't!

4 out of 5 stars It's alive.....   May 12, 2010

I got this on a Kindle freebie but wouldve be happy to pay for it. I really enjoyed this book about a deamon from another dimension that joins forces with Faries, humans, and animals to close a portal to earth. Not only is is packed with adventure and action there is a great love story behind it as well. Can't wait for book two to come out!

This is a wonderful story that I enjoyed from start to finish. There were no slow part and all of the character are very likable. The only thing that I am disappointed with is that I have to wait until September to get the sequel book which I have preordered.
