5 out of 5 stars Great Resource   July 6, 2010
Kenneth D. Cole (Tucson, Arizona; USA)
I do leatherwork & have wanted to do Celtic braids & knots on belts, wallets, checkbooks, etc. I haven't found a very good resource for patterns until this book. Not only are there a lot of patterns in this book for you to use, they show you how to design your own Celtic braids & knots.

If you want to use Celtic braids or knots, this is the book for you. If you want to design your own Celtic braids or knots, this is the book for you. If you just enjoy seeing great examples of Celtic braids or knots, this is the book for you.

5 out of 5 stars Celtic pattern for leather tooling   February 26, 2010
Mark C. Hall (Shafter, CA USA)
The book was purchased with the intent of getting design ideas for leather crafting. It meets that need and then some. There is a nice coolection and variety of material that would work well for the leather crafter as well as the even a wood carver or other artist.

4 out of 5 stars great help   February 6, 2010

I got this book to help with designing a celtic style powder horn. Not being too familiar with celtic art, other than knowing some basics, this book will help those interested in laying out their own designs. Directions are clear and concise and will have you turning out original art in no time. My only problem is that there is no section on letters, which is why I only gave it 4 stars.

5 out of 5 stars Great for beginners   January 18, 2010
Renessa S. ((Kentucky, USA))
I had admire knotwork for a very long time before I ever thought to do it myself. When I got into reenacting early period Viking/Irish I definitely picked this up. Not only does it have a little history, there is a very nice visual time line that breaks down the stylistic stages animals figures and knots themselves went through over time. I don't know that I would use this book in particular as a trusted source as documentation of a particular knot on a particular illumination/piece of clothing/furniture (it's far too vague for that, and while she does give sources she doesn't say what came from where) but it's a nice starting point to do further research from. Now, if only I could get this back from the other reenactor friends I lent it to maybe I could progress into more complicated books and designs. ;P

5 out of 5 stars Excellent   November 3, 2009
K. Simmons (Georgia)
I've looked at a lot of sources for celtic knotwork, but this one has good patterns plus explanation for how to create your own patterns. The book also shows both line drawings and color version of some patterns.
