Product Description Once a fringe phenomenon, tattooing is now a full-blown cultural fact. More than 40 million people in the U.S. alone have tattoos, all with unique stories about why they chose to indelibly mark their bodies. Permanence combines photographic tattoo portraits with these stories, told in the subjects' own words and handwriting. Kip Fulbeck brings together young and old of all races, religions, and political persuasions from celebrities to suburban moms to Hells Angels. Including interviews with celebrity tattooers Kat Von D and Oliver Peck (Miami Ink), hardcore legend Evan Seinfeld, and some regular folks, Permanence is an entertaining and enlightening portrait of the tattooed population today.

better than most tattoo books May 29, 2009 J. Beckman (illinois) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
its a small book with breif writing from the person who got the tattoo and I liked it. Wish you could see some different angles of the people with alot of the tats but I still liked the book good gift.
Permanence February 18, 2009 rebeka terry (Australia) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I thought the book would be bigger in size as it is touted as a photographic feast - I expected almost a portfolio of pictures and detailed stories, however this is tiny at 18cm by 18cm and shows only a snippet of handwriting on each pic.
I was also looking forward to seeing what the celebrities said about their tatts but in some of the photos you can't even tell whose tatt it is they are pretty much anonymous.
I guess I'll keep this in my collection for posterity but frankly it didn't live up to the reviews I had read and for the price I am a little disappointed. I also didn't think much of the interviewer's style of writing.
The photographs were classy and slick and the subject matter is awesome though!

I gave this book as a gift. I read it first as it was very interesting. The recipient liked the book and her husband also enjoyed it. They both got new ideas for further tattoos.

This is a unique booki that has a lot of people's thoughts and ideas. It is a great coffee table peice and I often find myself looking through it.
Visually Literate December 4, 2008 Amber T. Remeeus (Indianapolis, IN) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The synthesis of text and photo is a brilliant format for storytelling. This series is a wonderful collection of works and stories, fitting in with Fulbeck's greater body of work dealing with subcultures and perception. Lots of interesting and recognizable people inside with some beautiful, body art.
